Association of Plastic Recyclers Testing Options
|
Benchmark Testing
We perform APR benchmark studies to establish a baseline measure of recyclability and to verify that packaging meets minimum industry expectations. Critical Guidance Testing Our lab conducts APR critical guidance protocols to identify design features, adhesives, and additives that could interfere with successful recycling. Sortation Testing We evaluate how materials are detected, classified, and separated in recycling facilities to ensure compatibility with modern sortation technologies. Resin-Specific Evaluations Testing is available for PE flexible, PET rigid, PP rigid, and HDPE rigid packaging, using official APR methods to deliver reliable and actionable results. |
Technology DevelopmentMethod Validation
We design and validate in-process and benchtop testing methods tailored to client operations. Real-Time Monitoring Solutions We develop monitoring systems for continuous detection of VOCs, heavy metals, and other indicators. Sustainable Materials R&D We research and design bio-based, compostable, and recycled polymer solutions. Technology Optimization Our engineers integrate analytical tools and feedback systems into production lines to optimize efficiency, strengthen quality control, and reduce waste. |
Analytical Sample TestingInorganic and Organic Contamination
We test for inorganic and organic contaminants, including metals, solvents, and chemical residues such as chemicals of concern and non-intentionally added substances (NIAS), to verify the integrity of raw materials and finished packaging. VOC and Odor Analysis We evaluate volatile organic compounds and packaging odors with advanced fingerprinting techniques to detect off-flavors or emissions that affect product quality. Mechanical and Performance Testing We measure shelf-life, strength, and barrier properties to confirm packaging durability and reliability under real-world conditions. Polymer Characterization Our team conducts structural, thermal, and surface analyses to characterize polymers for innovation, troubleshooting, and material optimization. |
Regulatory Compliance TestingFood-Contact Compliance
We test packaging materials for compliance with U.S. CFR extractables, EU 1935/2004 and EU 10/2011 regulations, and California PCR polymer standards. Heavy Metals and Residuals We analyze cadmium, chromium, mercury, and lead under CONEG guidelines and measure residual catalyst levels. Extractables and Migrants We quantify compounds released from packaging systems to verify stability and regulatory compliance. We also perform screening evaluations for non-intentionally and intentionally added substances (NIAS/IAS) and compliance for third party restricted substance lists (RSLs). Prop 65 and International Standards We screen for Proposition 65 chemicals and compare results with international standards. Support FDA Letter of No Objection Submissions Our team completes the process from start to finish in house by evaluating your process and feedstock then completes the required testing to generate the final report to the FDA. |
Training and ConsultingCustomized Training Programs
We provide training in contamination monitoring, sustainability metrics, and packaging safety tailored to client needs and industry standards. Workshops and Seminars We run workshops on testing protocols, compliance strategies, and packaging technologies to keep teams current with regulatory and technical practices. Consulting Services We offer consulting in packaging design, regulatory navigation, restricted substance list generation (RSL), and sustainability planning from concept through implementation. Industry Partnerships We collaborate with clients, universities, and government agencies. |
